Are You Affected by the Changes to the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)?

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently announced changes to the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) program that now require some individuals to renew their ITIN. Taxpayers with expiring ITINs will receive a letter from the IRS regarding the renewal process. The IRS is now accepting ITIN renewal applications and encourages taxpayers to plan ahead and file their respective renewals before they expire.  ITINs are used by people who have tax filing or payment obligations under U.S. law but who are not eligible for a Social Security Number. This may impact many immigrants and non-immigrants who do business in the United States.
